Hocus Pocus Season

I am one of THOSE people. The people who get super excited each season, buy a bunch of supplies to make an impressive collection of seasonal projects to decorate my home and then…get exactly none of them finished in time. Anyone else?

With this context, you can imagine my absolute delight when a Halloween quilt came in from one of my clients.

This is Corinne Sovey’s Hocus Pocus Quilt pattern. It’s a doozy of a quilt featuring applique, hand piecing, paper piecing and tricky cutting to achieve all of these amazing spooky blocks. A lot of seasoned quilters wouldn’t touch a project like this for all the fabric in the world. Get this though, this was my client’s FIRST QUILT!

Mind blown.

And if the top of the quilt wasn’t enough, my client pieced this amazing backing for it. I LOVE those retro pumpkins and this amazing improv pieced strip.

Naturally, the quilting had to be perfect. We opted for the Spindle pantograph in a light grey 50wt Aurifil thread in a medium density. It added the perfect amount of texture and interest to the quilt without detracting from this incredible piecing.

It’s so good. What a fun project! It definitely helped me scratch my seasonal quilt itch.
